Atapuerca and other stories

Hola!

We started to work early on Tuesday. We were happy that our Italian colleagues could join us and therefore we started the morning by going through the minutes from Monday.

After we captured Monday’s activities.

We agreed on the newsletter (content and frequency), worked on our Open Education paper and continued to work on the grading system.

Before lunch we visited another UNESCO heritage site :

This archaeological site was truly interesting place. The guide we had was a brilliant lady who explained all the details of the site (and our history) in a very inspirational way.

We all agreed that a good guide makes a huge difference to a visit /an experience.  This brilliant guiding reminded us also about the power of a good teacher/ lecturer.

Thanks for the marvelous guiding the Atapuerca team!

What is the Sierra de Atapuerca?

“The caves of the Sierra de Atapuerca contain a rich fossil record of the earliest human beings in Europe, from nearly one million years ago and extending up to the Common Era. They represent an exceptional reserve of data, the scientific study of which provides priceless information about the appearance and the way of life of these remote human ancestors.”

After visiting the caves we headed to the Museum of human evolution: Museo evolucion humana, which was quite close to the architectural site itself. In the museum we had a short introduction to how humans lived thousands of years ago, how to make fire “out of nothing”, how to hunt etc.

Our minds were nourished, so it was time to go and nourish our bodies.

We had a nice lunch in a small restaurant near the school.

After the lunch, even though the sun was shining and the temperature was over 22 degrees, we started to work again. We agreed on some dates and studied the grading system in detail.
